At St. Kevin's, we believe learning to play an instrument is perfect for a child's personal and cognitive development. Our instrumental music lessons provide a unique opportunity for children to explore their creativity and express themselves through music. Learning an instrument fosters discipline, patience, and perseverance. Ultimately, children acquire musical skills and a lifelong love for music by learning an instrument.​

Erin Harrington

​​Voice & Ukulele Teacher

​​Erin is a seasoned singer/songwriter, boasting over a decade of experience in the music industry. She specialises in ukulele and vocal coaching and brings a wealth of expertise to her role at St. Kevin's. Her profound passion lies in igniting the musical spark within children, nurturing their innate talent, and fostering a deep appreciation for musicianship. Steve Hawley 

Guitar/Piano/Keyboard Teacher

Steve is an accomplished professional musician with a wealth of experience. He has amassed over 15 years of teaching expertise across various educational settings, including schools, after-school care, and holiday programs. At St. Kevin's, Steve leads engaging group lessons in guitar and piano/keyboard. Josh Wright

Josh is a professional in the world of drumming and music education. With an impressive career spanning the last 7 years, he embarked on national and international tours with acclaimed artists, leaving his mark on numerous recorded tracks. At St. Kevin's, Josh is the driving force behind our dynamic drum lessons, where he imparts his extensive knowledge and passion for percussion. Speech & Drama Teacher

Meet Jill, the creative force and dedicated Speech and Drama teacher at St Kevin's, where passion meets performance. Jill's journey at St Kevin's is a testament to her unwavering commitment to the art of Speech and Drama. With a legacy spanning many years, she has become an integral part of our school, shaping the creative narrative for countless students. In her role, Jill goes beyond the conventional boundaries of teaching. She offers not just classes but an experience - through small group sessions and personalised one-on-one lessons, she delicately nurtures talents, instilling a profound sense of confidence in her students. Students not only learn the nuances of speech and drama but also discover the strength within themselves to express with clarity and conviction.

Board Examination Excellence

Instruments we offer at St Kevin's​


We offer various instruments for students at St Kevin's from Prep to Year 6. Some instruments are not provided in younger grades as they require more physical ability to play. We offer group keyboard lessons for students in Prep to get an introduction to our Instrumental Music program.​Instruments.png

Speech and Drama Lessons

Speech and Drama Lessons are available during school time.

The main aim behind all the lessons is to provide extra opportunities to develop self-confidence in everyday communication and public performance.

They include:

  • Speaking in front of small groups (good for oral assessments)

  • Confidence and competence in oral presentation

  • Positive conversation skills, eye contact and active listening

  • Creative thinking

  • People skills

  • Self-discipline and time management

  • Expressive reading

  • Poetry appreciation and recitation

  • Mime and Drama

The syllabus is structured so that, eventually, Advanced students may sit for Board Examinations.

ROCKBAND


Our exclusive school Rockband program is an invitation-only opportunity extended to students who have demonstrated exceptional skill and unwavering commitment during their instrumental lessons. Being part of the Rockband is a significant milestone, allowing students to collaborate harmoniously as an ensemble—a privilege reserved for a select few at St. Kevin's.

Our Rockband students are mentored by exceptionally talented teachers, Josh and Steve, who bring their vast professional experience from years of performing in bands and touring across the country. We are truly fortunate to have such dedicated and accomplished teachers on our team.

As members of the Rockband, students can showcase their talents at various school events, assemblies, and within the broader community. These performances provide invaluable insights into the dynamics of a band and the exhilaration of playing in front of sizable audiences. It's an experience that not only hones their musical skills but also instils confidence and a sense of accomplishment

ELITE SINGERS


Our prestigious Elite Singing Group is an exclusive opportunity reserved solely for singing students who have demonstrated exceptional skill and unwavering dedication throughout their instrumental lessons. Being invited to join this esteemed group is an honour.

Under the expert guidance of professional singer/songwriter Erin Harrington, students in the Elite Singing Group embark on a transformative journey. During their lessons, they harmonise, sing together, and explore small solo and duo sections, honing essential skills in ensemble singing. Erin's mentorship enriches their musical journey, fostering growth and artistry.

Participation in our Elite Singing Group opens doors to captivating performance opportunities at school events, assemblies, and in front of wider community audiences. These experiences provide invaluable insights into the dynamics of performing before large crowds, equipping our students with the confidence to showcase their musical talents.​
